⚠️Important:

  • Inflation on the Basic Entitlement line is driven by multiple settings.

  • If any of these are missing or overridden, the inflation may not appear as expected.

Understand Where Basic Entitlement / AWPU Inflation Comes From

Inflation on the Basic Entitlement line draws from three places:

  1. Age Weighted Pupil Numbers grid in the Pupil Numbers section.

  2. Inflation Factors section.

  3. Funding/Grouping Headings settings.

All three areas must be correctly configured for inflation to apply to the Basic Entitlement / AWPU line.

View or Edit Inflation in the AWPU (Pupil Numbers)

  1. Click the Scenario menu, then under Budget Planning, click Pupil Numbers.

  2. In the Pupil Numbers screen, find Age Weighted Pupil Units.

  3. Click the arrow to the left of Age Weighted Pupil Units to expand the grid.

To view the inflation:

  1. In the grid, hover over the grid icon in the Inflation column.

    • A tooltip shows the inflation values applied.

To edit the inflation:

  1. In the Actions column, click Select, then click Edit Inflation.

  2. Enter the required inflation values into the budget year fields.

  3. Click Save.

The updated inflation settings now feed through to the Basic Entitlement / AWPU calculations.

Troubleshoot overwritten inflation values

πŸ“Œ Note: If inflation does not appear to work as expected on any fields, it may be because values in those fields were overtyped manually.

To reset them so they follow the inflation:

  1. In the grid, go to the first column for the affected row.

  2. Type the first value you want to use.

  3. Press Tab on your keyboard across the remaining columns.

This re-applies the inflation pattern across the row so the values adhere to the inflation settings instead of manual entries.

Apply Inflation via Inflation Factors

You can also apply inflation to the Basic Entitlement / AWPU line using Inflation Factors.

  1. Click the Scenario menu, then under Data Settings, click Inflation Factors.

  2. Find the line I02 / IL 102.

  3. In the Actions column for this line, click Select, then click Edit.

  4. Enter the required inflation values into the budget year fields.

  5. Click Save.

These inflation factors will only apply to Basic Entitlement / AWPU if the Funding/Grouping Headings inflation setting is enabled.

Check Funding/Grouping Headings Inflation Settings

To make sure the Inflation Factors apply to the Basic Entitlement line:

  1. Click the Academy/School menu.

  2. Under Settings, click Funding/Grouping Headings.

  3. On the top line (School Allocation or Schools Block Funding), go to the Actions column.

  4. Click Select, then click Manage Funding Headings.

  5. Find Basic Entitlement Age Weighted Pupil Unit and, on the right, click Select, then click View.

  6. Check that the boxes under INFLATE BY PERCENT are ticked.

If the INFLATE BY PERCENT boxes are not ticked, the system will not apply the Inflation Factors to the Basic Entitlement / AWPU line.
